The tallest boxer ever is believed to be Gogea Mitu, the tallest human in Romanian history. Born in 1914, the fighter dubbed 'Goliath of Romania' was believed to be 7 feet 4 inches (223.5 cm). Some sources, however, list him at a staggering 7 feet 9 inches (236.2 cm). Regardless of which is correct, both are world records as former WBA Heavyweight Champion Nikolai Valuev is a mere 7 feet tall (213cm).

Gogea Mitu was discovered at a carnival or fair by a boxer who saw potential in him. According to "some" reports, Mitu threw himself into extreme training and fought exhibitions in Romania, Italy and France, defeating every foe he was paired with. Other accounts insist he was beaten up by 6'6" Primo Carnera who, at the time, was a previous, current or future world heavyweight champion. As a professional, Mitu's official record was 2-0-1, 2 KOs according to BoxRec.

According to Wikipedia, a typical lunch consisted of 1 kilogram (2.2 lb) of bread, 25 eggs, 1 kilogram (2.2 lb) of fried chicken, two litres of milk, 1 kilogram (2.2 lb) of sweets, a litre of Å£uică and half a litre of wine. Wine too? Sadly, at the tender age of 22 Mitu died of tuberculosis in 1936.
