The show which had the fight between Carl Frampton and Andres Gutierrez was cancelled after the Mexican slipped in the shower and injured himself. Reports suggest that Gutierrez suffered concussion, facial cuts and lost some teeth in the incident, prompting Cyclone promotions to announce, “Cyclone Promotions and The SSE Arena regret to announce the ‘Return of the Jackal’ event has been postponed due to an accident to Andres Gutierrez. “It is hoped that the event will be re-scheduled but ticket holders are advised to retain their tickets and contact point of purchase for further information.” Ahead of the fight, Frampton weighed in a pound over the weight limit thereby losing the fight its status as an official eliminator for the WBC featherweight title, prompting Frampton to remark, “I would like to say sorry to the fans that have shown such incredible support throughout this frantic fight week.” A disappointing conclusion to a build-up to what would have been a competitive fight.
