Blood pressure medication that he had a prescription for. But it's still banned by the commission.

Ortiz never attempted to obtain a therapeutic use exemption (TUE), which is required under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines, two sources said.

DEONTAY WILDER TO FACE BERMANE STIVERNE IN REMATCH

Deontay Wilder, for the third time in less than two years, has had a fight cancelled due to an opponent’s failed drug test.

Luis Ortiz tested positive for the banned substances chlorothiazide and hydrochlorothiazide, diuretics commonly used in athletics as masking agents. Ortiz maintains that the banned substances found in his system through WBC-mandated VADA testing are the result of prescribed medication he was using to treat high blood pressure. However, Ortiz did not report to VADA that he had been on the prescription drug prior to undergoing testing for the Wilder bout. And on Wednesday, the WBC announced the fight wouldn’t go through.

Instead, Wilder will fight Bermane Stiverne in a rematch on Nov. 4 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Stiverne is the WBC’s mandatory challenger and accepted a six-figure step-aside fee to allow the Ortiz fight to happen in the first place.

Stiverne is the only man to go the distance with Wilder, but he wasn’t remotely competitive during their January 2015 bout. Since then, Stiverne has fought only once, a decision victory over Derric Rossy in which he was dropped.

Stiverne was set to face Dominic Breazeale on the undercard, but now he has the title fight and return encounter with Wilder he coveted. And some extra money, too.

WBC DEEMS LUIS ORTIZ WAS SIMPLY TAKING BLOOD-PRESSURE MEDICATION, LIFTS BAN

Luis Ortiz is free to fight again.

The heavyweight contender was scheduled to challenge Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title last month, but a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association test revealed an adverse finding for the banned substances chlorithiazide and hydroclorothiazide.

Ortiz (27-0, 23 knockouts) and his team contended that he was taking the medications to treat high blood pressure, but the WBC still pulled sanctioning from the bout and it was eventually scrapped, with Wilder instead knocking out Bermane Stiverne in one round.

Now, following a thorough examination of Ortiz by WBC Medical Advisory Committee Chairman Dr. Paul Wallace, it was determined he indeed did need to treat a condition, as claimed. It appears the Cuban’s failure to disclose the medications on a VADA form and apply for a therapeutic use exemption cost him a shot at the heavyweight title.

The 38-year-old’s suspension was lifted Friday (though he’s still banned by the WBA), and he’s eligible to reenter the ratings.

“The WBC concludes that the evidence available to the WBC supports a finding that Mr. Ortiz’ ingestion of high blood pressure medication was directed to the treatment of an ongoing medical condition,” the ruling stated. “Therefore, Mr. Ortiz will continue to be tested based on a specifically designed testing protocol.

“As of the date of this ruling, Mr. Ortiz is available to compete in WBC-sanctioned events, and shall be confirmed in the WBC ratings in a position consistent with the recommendation of the WBC Ratings Committee.”

Ortiz back with a vengeance! :yess

“I’m ready for you,” Ortiz said in English to Wilder after they faced off in the ring.

“Stay by the phone, I’ve been waiting for you,” Wilder said. “I blessed you with the opportunity the first time, you messed it up. I’m going to bless you again. I understand the blood pressure pills and everything like that. … Be ready, I don’t want no excuses. I’m gonna whoop your ass.

Luis Ortiz had just blasted through journeyman Daniel Martz in two rounds, and with his man still writhing on the canvas, the Cuban walked over, peered over the top rope and started jawing at Deontay Wilder. The two were slated to meet for Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title in November, but Ortiz tested positive for banned substances, scuttling the bout.Ortiz was reinstated by the WBC last week after the organization found he used the substances to treat high blood pressure, and the heavyweight contender returned Friday on FS1. Wilder was there to take in the action and provided expert commentary during the short bout, and it’s apparent they’re angling to reschedule the bout for the spring.

This isn't his 1st time testing positive

Not surprising if he suffers with Blood pressure problems, you are on tablets pretty much for the rest of your life after you start taking them and the medication dosage and actual tablet changes as you age; there is a very good chance that any new medication can have banned substances within them and that could have an adverse effect on any test!!

DEONTAY WILDER, LUIS ORTIZ AGREE TO HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT ON MARCH 3 IN NEW YORK :esmile

Deontay Wilder is finally going to get his hands on Luis Ortiz.

There’s an agreement in place for Wilder to defend his WBC heavyweight title against Ortiz on March 3 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, sources with knowledge of the talks told RingTV.com.

Showtime will televise the meeting between the big men (opposite HBO’s coverage of Sergey Kovalev-Igor Mikhalkin), who were scheduled to meet on November 4. A random performance-enhancing drug test revealed the substances chlorothiazide and hydrochlorothiazide in Ortiz’s system, scrapping the highly anticipated fight.

The WBC cleared Ortiz of wrongdoing earlier this month, attributing the adverse finding to medicine necessary to treat high blood pressure. The 38-year-old was re-inserted into the organization’s ratings, paving the way for Wilder’s toughest in-ring test to date.
