In what has become a major news story in Atlanta, multiple outlets are reporting that former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and members of his entourage were driving in three vehicles to the Buckhead hotel, and when the vehicles pulled in to the establishment - another vehicle pulled up and one or more individuals in that car opened fire at the Mayweather vehicles - and one of the boxer's bodyguards was shot in the leg.

Several officers responded to the scene at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta just after 3 a.m. Monday.

“We believe that Mr. Mayweather may have been in one of the other vehicles in the caravan and was not injured,” Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah confirmed to several outlets. “At this time, it appears that this was not a random shooting and the shooter was targeting the victim’s vehicle.”

According to Atlanta police, all three of the Mayweather vehicles drove away and were followed temporarily by the shooters.

Mayweather's bodyguard was driven to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. He is in stable condition.

“We are working to confirm the suspect vehicle description,” Hannah said to the Atlanta Journal.

As stated, Mayweather was not injured in the attack, and police have not ruled out the possibility that he was the actual target.

"Another vehicle pulled up beside them at the intersection of Peachtree Road and Highland Drive and fired several times at one of the vehicles. All three vehicles fled and reported being followed for a distance," a police source told TMZ.

"After losing the vehicle that was following them, the victim's vehicle drove to Grady Hospital where the victim was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and is in stable condition."

Mayweather was ringside this past Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, where his promotional company staged a Showtime televised tripleheader.
