A boxer and close friend of Michael Norgrove - who died on Saturday after collapsing in the ring - has said she will now quit the sport. Norgrove, 31, died from bleeding on the brain eight days after collapsing at The Ring in Blackfriars, south London. The Zambian national, based in London, is the first boxer to die after a fight in the UK since bantamweight James Murray in 1995.

Monica Harris, due to fight on Friday, said that bout will be her last.

She said: "I just don't feel it's right to carry on after this. It [safety] wasn't something I really worried about before. It wasn't an issue. This has just made it real, what we do when we get in the ring. I have a fight on Friday which I've been training for since the beginning of the year, and I'm going to make this my last."

Ms Harris added: "I am going to dedicate my last fight to Michael."
