Quote:Doncaster's Jamie McDonnell believes his army of supporters, and opponent Julio Ceja's lack of a well-stamped passport, will be crucial in sweeping him to world title victory when the pair clash in his hometown's Keepmoat Stadium on May 11.
The bantamweights go head-to-head for the vacant IBF crown on the pitch at the home of Doncaster Rovers Football Club, and Jamie is convinced Ceja's first experience of fighting outside of his native Mexico will be a painful one.
"It's a massive factor," stated the 27-year-old. "It's probably what will make me win the fight, having that home support behind me, cheering me on.
"He's always had that in his favour and he's not used to being out of his comfort zone, it's all new to him. Having 9000 'Donny' people screaming for me, it's going to be intimidating for him.
"I've fought at the [Doncaster] Dome plenty of times and it's a different buzz you get fighting in front of your own people. It gives you a massive boost and you don't want to let all those 'Donny' fans down."
Unbeaten Ceja will arrive in the UK with a fearsome reputation. The 20-year-old has knocked out 22 of his 24 opponents, with 15 of those wins coming within the first three rounds.
McDonnell, though, isn't intimidated. The former British and European bantamweight king is convinced he has the beating of the South American hard-man, and is even hoping to finish the fight early.
"I rate him a lot," said Jamie, who has lost just two of 23 bouts. "He's ranked number three [in the world] and you don't get that if you're nothing special, but I'll take him into those later rounds and punish him.
"I'm used to going into those rounds but I don't think he's ever done 12. So there are a lot of pluses going for me. He's got his power but I'm not going to sit there and start taking his shots, I'll be using my feet and my head.
"I don't think he hits as hard as his record says, but don't get me wrong he can punch because to stop 22 from 24, even if they're journeymen, that's impressive. He definitely can fight but I believe I'll beat him and hopefully stop him."

Quote:Julio Diaz has warned Amir Khan that he should not be underestimated ahead of their bout in Sheffield on April 27. Khan will be fighting on British soil for the first time in two years, following four consecutive fights in the US, but his Mexican opponent Diaz has issued that it will be not be plain-sailing when the pair meet at the Motorpoint Arena.
"I'm looking forward to it and very excited," he told Sky Sports. "They think it's a safe fight, for him [Khan] to come back and rebuild his career and his confidence. He took on Carlos Molina in his last fight, a very small guy with no power, a very straight-forward type of guy. He made Amir Khan look good. I'm not Carlos Molina, I'm a veteran, experienced and a very strong puncher. If they chose me for Amir to look great in his home town I think it's the worst mistake they made."
Despite suffering seven losses on his record, 33-year-old Diaz is confident that he can get his career back on track and insists the fight against Khan could prove to be a starting point for revival.
"I'm coming to fight, I'm trying to rebuild my own career. I'm not just happy to be there, I'm going for Amir Khan," Diaz said. "I'm going to the UK for a victory and I will get that knockout. This is a big opportunity for me so I'm training like never before to make sure everything is right. My head is clear, my personal life is good and this is a great time for me to be fighting. Amir Khan is going to get the best Julio Diaz you've ever seen. If Amir beats me, I give him all the credit in the world. I have no excuses."

Brandon Rios thinks he didn’t deserve to suffer his first pro defeat in his unanimous decision loss to Mike Alvarado this past Saturday.
“When I watched the fight, I did not lose that fight,” Rios said Friday morning in an ESPN.com online chat. “I have it 7-5 or with some of the rounds, maybe a draw.”
The judges, however, had the bout in Alvarado’s favor: two of them scored it 115-113, while the third judge’s tally was 114-113.
“He ran the last three rounds. He didn't connect,” Rios said. “I was the one doing the more damage. The more chasing. The more hitting. That's why I thought I won those last three rounds.”
Judge Bill Lerch gave Alvarado rounds 10, 11 and 12, though, while judges Dave Moretti and Duane Ford had Rios winning the 11th.
Rios said he and his teamthought this second bout would be just like their first war.
“With this fight, I did look slow,” Rios said. “I was heavy on my feet. He ran a lot. I didn't get any punches on him because he ran so much. I didn't get what I wanted off. It happens. I can not bring time back. He stuck to his gameplan. I'm ready for the third one now.
“It was my mistake. We were preparing for another brawl,” he said. “That's how I messed up. It was our fault. But it was a good job. We cut the ring off. But when we did that, I didn't pursue more. Next time we'll be ready for another game plan. Whatever he brings.”
