	So there is a new league that will be running ammy boxing.
</p>

<p>
	But of course USA Boxing is gonna be anti this new league.

<p>
	It has come to our attention that a new boxing organization, United States Boxing League, has been approved to operate in the State of Colorado. The United States Boxing League (USBL) recently sent out an email announcing the development of their unique boxing format that in their words “fills the gap between amateur and professional.”
</p>

<p>
	USA Boxing has conducted phone calls with the USBL leadership regarding their program and from the statements made to our office, it appears the Colorado State Athletic Commission has approved and recognized the organization for operation within their State. It is our understanding that the officials working these events are licensed professional referees and judges.
</p>

<p>
	USBL is clear in their announcement that they are not affiliated with USA Boxing, Inc., the National Governing Body of Amateur Boxing in the United States. Please read the following statement regarding USA Boxing restrictions regarding participation in the United States Boxing League.
</p>

<p>
	No registered members of USA Boxing, Inc., specifically, athlete and non-athlete members, are permitted to participate in non-USA Boxing sanctioned events. Individuals who decide to box or officiate in United States Boxing League events will be suspended from USA Boxing membership.
</p>

<p>
	As previously stated, United States Boxing League leadership is aware of our rules and restrictions.
</p>

<p>
	USBL Resident Agent and spokesperson Aurelio Martinez, Sr. communicated the following to the National Office, “I anticipated USA Boxing notifying their membership of the conflict with participating in USBL events.”
</p>

<p>
	USA Boxing Competition Rule 3
</p>

<p>
	3.4.4. A USA Boxing member may NOT box in a non-USA Boxing sanctioned event.
</p>

<p>
	USA Boxing Technical Rule 1
</p>

<p>
	1.5. Any boxer, coach or official who participates in an unsanctioned amateur or non-amateur boxing contest or tournament is ineligible to participate in competition as an athlete or non-athlete member of USA Boxing.  Such person may make an appeal for consideration through USA Boxing’s grievance and complaint process.
</p>

<p>
	<span style="color:#008000;">(To clarify, USA Boxing does not restrict non-athlete members from participating in State Athletic Commission Professional events or approved Fire &amp; Police events)</span>

	Seems like this has been coming for awhile.  Who will run the boxing event then? USA Boxing?  They also said that a 'fair' qualifier will be organized to chose athletes.  I know many athletes already qualified for the trials in the West coast qualifier. It will be interesting to see if this shakes things up or gives long shots a chance. <img alt=":coffee" data-emoticon="" src="https://worldboxingforums.com/uploads/emoticons/default_coffee.gif" title=":coffee"></p>

	It has been 12 years since anyone from the US Olympic men’s boxing team won a gold medal. Shakur Stevenson hopes to end that drought next month in Rio de Janeiro.

	“It’s very important for me to be the first person to win a gold medal since 2004,” Shakur told The Post during a recent interview from Rio. “I’m hyped about it because I know how much I’ve prepared for this and I know I have the mentality to do it. I can’t wait until I’ve actually done it and I’m on the podium with a gold medal around my neck.”

	If Stevenson’s dream comes true, he’ll be the first American male to win a boxing gold medal since Andre Ward captured gold in the light heavyweight division at the Athens Games in 2004. There hasn’t been much to brag about since then, with the only men’s medal coming when current WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder earned a bronze at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

	Stevenson, a 19-year-old bantamweight out of Newark, has a chance to become an Olympic hero the way Ray Leonard and Oscar De La Hoya did. He has an ear-to-ear smile, an engaging personality, fast fists, an unbeaten record in international competition and the kind of background that warms hearts.
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	Rio is a long way from the housing projects in Newark, where Stevenson grew up as the oldest of nine children. His mother, Malikah Stevenson, named him after the famed rapper Tupac Shakur, who had been murdered in Las Vegas nearly a year before her son’s birth. Shakur Stevenson was 5 years old when his grandfather started taking him to the gym in Newark where Wali Moses kept youngsters off the street by teaching them how to box. It was love at first punch.
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	“Once I went in and saw all the people in the gym training and saw the sparring, it looked like fun,” Stevenson said. “I wanted to give it a try. Boxing kept me in a safe place because Newark was rough sometimes. There were nine of us sleeping in one room. It definitely wasn’t easy.”
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	After one of Stevenson’s cousins was fatally shot in Newark, his mother decided her 16-year-old son should move in with family in Hampton, Va.
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	“I was getting in a lot of trouble back home,” Stevenson said. “I got kicked out of one school, and then my cousin died. It was getting hectic. My mother felt like it was the best move for me to go to Hampton. It was a way better environment.”
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	Before long, his coach, Kay Koroma, who was based in Alexandria, Va., convinced Shakur’s mother to let her son move in with him. Since then, Stevenson has flourished as an amateur. He is the first US male boxer to win both the junior and youth world championships and a 2014 Youth Olympic Games gold medal. He arrives in Rio with a 23-0 record in international competition with his only setbacks being two losses to American countryman Ruben Villa in 2015.
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	In response, Stevenson put a picture of Villa celebrating his victory on his cell phone and waited for a chance to avenge the loss. It came at the Olympic Trials last December, where Stevenson defeated Villa to earn a spot on the US Olympic team.
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	“I hate losing,” Stevenson said. “When I trained for the Olympic Trials, I threw away the fact I was fighting for the Olympics. I just focused on going there to beat him. I wanted to get that back so bad, which I did.”
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	Stevenson is 5-foot-8 and will compete at 123 pounds. His first bout in the Olympics isn’t until Aug. 10. He will have been in Rio for almost three weeks by then.
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	“I would rather just get into it because my patience isn’t that good,” he said. “But I guess it is what it is, so I’ve got to deal with it. I’ll keep training and watching my weight.”
</p>

<p style="font-size:16px;line-height:24px;font-family:'proxima-nova', sans-serif;color:rgb(42,42,42);margin-bottom:20px;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;letter-spacing:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);">
	A gifted southpaw who is naturally right-handed, Stevenson has a peppery jab and a quick counterpunch. He stays busy, firing hooks and combinations to the head and body, a style that works well in the amateur ranks. He has been compared to a young Floyd Mayweather, and has gotten advice from Ward and former Olympian and unbeaten welterweight contender Errol Spence. He also got an encouraging shout-out from junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford after his pay-per-view victory over Viktor Postol on Saturday.

	The 2016 Rio-de-Janeiro Summer Olympics have come to an end, effectively ending what was a special Olympic boxing tourney in more than one way.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	Putting a much more detailed and thorough analysis aside (for this moment), the last day of the Olympics presents everyone with a very good reason for a medal count by countries. This year the results were both predictable and sensational.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	What was totally unexpected was the rapid rise of the Uzbek national amateur team. Uzbekistan was always known for its boxing school but for years those rich traditions and loads of boxing talent have been struggling mightily to manifest it the proper way. Uzbekistan’s only gold had been got by Mohammad Abdullaev in Sydney - but the present team captured thrice as many for clearly the best result in the Uzbek history.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	These Olympics were also marred with the weak performance of the Russian national boxing team (showing its worst result in years) and the slight comeback of the Americans (one silver and one bronze medal among the men).
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">

	As for Saturday's live viewing, the decision was a smart one by NBC Sports given the significance.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	Stevenson is already assured at least a Silver medal, the best finish by any U.S. male boxer since his boxing idol Andre Ward struck Gold in the 2004 Athens Olympics. That same competition saw Andre Dirrell capture a Bronze medal, the last time any U.S. Olympic men's boxing team earned at least two medals.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	Just one medal total had come of the past two Olympics on the male side - Deontay Wilder earning the Bronze medal during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The men's team came home empty-handed during the 2012 London competition, the worst finish ever in U.S. boxing history.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	The 2016 team has changed that, with the men racking up 11 total wins - one shy of the combined total of the 2008 and 2012 male squads. Stevenson and Bronze medalist Nico Hernandez have each claimed three victories, although one such win for Stevenson came via walkover when Russia's Vladimir Nikitin was a medical scratch for their scheduled bantamweight semifinal on Thursday.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	Nikitin was the benefactor of two questionable decisions - getting the nod in controversial calls over Thailand's Chatchai Butdee and Ireland's Michael Conlan. The latter was the most notable, as Conlan came in as the number-one seed and left with a profanity-filled tirade speaking to the level of corruption that sadly still exists within what was promised to be a reformed International Boxing Association (AIBA).
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	Significant fallout came from the movement, including all seven AIBA "five-star" referee and judges -  Mik Basi (Great Britain), Michael Gallagher (Ireland), Mariusz Gorny (Poland), Vladislav Malyshev (Russia), Gerardo Poggi (Argentina), Rakhymzhan Rysbayev (Kazakhstan) and Kheira Sidi Yakoub (Algeria) - being benched for the remainder of the 2016 Rio Olympics, as have been Meng Wang (China) and Khas-Erdene Khishgee (Mongolia).
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	Unfortunately for the boxers who were victimized, none of the verdicts from the previously scheduled 266 Olympic bouts were subject for appeal, as that process no longer exists.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	Still, Stevenson and Ramirez both earned their way to reach this point. Ramirez captured Gold as a flyweight for Cuba in the 2012 London Olympics, but struggled during the Qualifiers in getting to Rio. He eventually made his way to the bantamweight field, coming in as the number-six seed but dominating the competition in becoming one of six members from a loaded Cuban boxing squad that will take home an Olympic medal.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	The USA vs. Cuba Olympic Gold medal boxing matchup is the first since 1996. That bout became a significant entry in U.S. men's Olympic history, with David Reid rallying from behind to score a knockout win over Alfredo Duvergel.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	The feat spared the U.S. team the embarrassment of failing to capture Olympic Gold, although the U.S. has not brought home more than one in any of the previous six Olympics. Oscar de la Hoya earned Gold in 1992 Barcelona; Reid in 1996 Atlanta; no Gold was claimed in 2000 Sydney; War the lone Olympic champion for U.S. in 2004 Athens; none in 2008 Beijing; and Shields running the tables in 2012 London.
</p>

<p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Times New Roman';font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;letter-spacing:normal;line-height:normal;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;">
	Stevenson and Shields now have a chance to accomplish what hasn't happened for U.S. Olympic boxing since 1988 - and will both get to do so in front a live, televised audience.
</p>
