As Conor McGregor prepares for the biggest fight of his life just one month away as he faces Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas, he’s moved his camp to Las Vegas where he’s been working with several new training partners. Retired boxing champion and Showtime color commentator Paulie Malignaggi joined the ranks of McGregor’s team last week when he showed up to offer the UFC champion some sparring rounds after a critical assessment of his chances to beat Mayweather in a boxing match. http://www.mmaweekly.com/paulie-malignaggi-critical-of-conor-mcgregors-knockout-power-for-boxing

  10. Good read. I myself think power and chins we all posses. But to me it is the timing of the punch landed, and also the timing of the punch received that produces the desired effects.

  15. Here his daughter weighs in: November 29, 2022 To the boxing community of the world: My father is an 88-year-old man who is just that – old and aging! Despite the fact that he has been living in the United States for decades, English remains his 2nd language. Communications can be misconstrued and well-intentioned words can be misinterpreted. The present situation is one such glaring example of what might have actually been said, (no pun intended), and what may have been taken out of context. My father is a decent and honorable man. He dedicated his life to boxing and boxers and cared for them and their well-being, regardless of nationality or circumstance. He refereed numerous historic fights with the likes of Muhammad Ali, Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, and many more fighters for the entirety of his career. He has since retired and has been out of the spotlight for as long as I can remember. Oh, but he loves to talk and entertain because like any other human, he still yearns to feel relevant. I invite everyone to ask about Carlos Padilla among his peers: promoters, fighters, referees or anyone from his era and hopefully, you will learn about my father’s true character. He does not need controversies at this very late stage in his life. I know I may sound biased, being the eldest child of six, but I believe that through his legacy, he has proven his worth and we, his family, would appreciate it if people respected his contributions to the boxing community he so loved, by giving him some well-deserved consideration. Thank you! Suzy Padilla Tuano

  23. I agree. Hammer has reach and has won many of her fights using just that. If Shields has improved any defensive holes I think she will come out on top. Her training has been impressive. I know she was training with John David Jackson in FL... They have cast a bitter rivalry between them (the fighters) which just adds to the drama. I agree, more big name fights would be great. Hardy vs anyone ever with talent would be great to see - Braekus vs Mc Carter would be a good on as well.

  25. Whyte's got no amateur experience, little pro experience and is batting way above his average for a short spell at the moment. Lets not get carried away here. Wilder will be a good payday for Whyte but he get a proper schooling. He wont be able to shoulder barge and elbow Wilder the way he bullied Parker - who's body language said to me he didnt want to be in the arena never mind the ring. I think Whyte beats Povetkin, Breazeale and Miller but not Fury, AJ, Wilder or Ortiz.

  30. And the fact is that these are all made up categories that resemble styles of famous boxers over the years. Does it really matter if someone is a slugger vs a brawler? What are the subtle differences between the 2? Also, ... Couldn't a volume puncher be a swarmer if he is winning on work rate? Maybe a pressure fighter has shitty technique but the slugger throws punches with good technique. It depends on the fighter. I love when I read online articles that make these definitions 'absolutes' lmao. Have you guys ever these old school adages: Swarmer beats Boxer Slugger beats Swarmer Boxer beats Slugger Just as simple as ... " With a southpaw ALWAYS keep your lead foot outside his." .... Maybe, ..Maybe not.

  40. By: Staff reports | August 21, 2016 10:02 pm This is the first female pro fight I have got to watch on tv in english since I started boxing. (Way back in 2013 lol). It was a great and technically sound fight but I would have given it to Vincent as her punches had massive effect. Not quite sure what the judges were seeing here. Women's boxing on PBC and Claressa Shields winning 2x gold is a huge day. These fights are worth watching. It's a step in the right direction towards getting women's boxing televised and eventually increasing the pay for technically sound female pro's. The action and the skill are there. (Shout out to the haters, as well as all the peeps watching females on UFC that have no clue that women's boxing exists.) http://boxingjunkie.usatoday.com/2016/08/21/heather-hardy-tops-shelly-vincent-televised-womens-bout/ "Sunday was a big day for women’s boxing in America. In Rio De Janeiro, Claressa Shields, from Flint, Mich., won her second consecutive Olympic gold medal to become the first U.S. fighter, male or female, to win multiple gold medals. Far away, at Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island, N.Y., Brooklyn’s Heather Hardy remained undefeated with a hard-fought majority decision against Shelly Vincent, handing Vincent her first loss. It was the first women’s bout televised on NBCSN. The action was non-stop from the start as Vincent charged in early, looking to close the distance between her and the taller Hardy. Hardy moved around the ring more, looking for the right distance to attack the Providence, R.I., native. “This is definitely a win for women’s boxing,” said Hardy (18-0, 4 KOs). “We kept up a great pace throughout and the fans were invested the whole time. “Every time she crowded me, she would get off more punches. I wanted to keep the fight on the outside and when I did that I had a lot of success.” Hardy’s movement allowed her to create more angles for her attack as she varied her offense with overhand rights, jabs and hooks. Vincent was consistent countering, with her left hand finding the most success. Hardy threw 752 punches while Vincent threw 678 over the 10 two-minute rounds. Hardy connected on 251 punches to 194 for Vincent. “I thought I won the fight pretty convincingly,” said Hardy. “She only really caught me a few times the whole fight. I knew I had to be tactical to win the fight. Judging by the belt around my waist, I would rate my performance a 10.” The judges ruled it for Hardy by scores of 99-91, 97-93 and 95-95. Vincent (18-1, 1 KO) believed she did enough to win the fight. “I definitely thought I won the fight,” said Vincent. “I was coming forward and I landed the bigger shots. Everyone saw the fight. 'I got head-butted all night long. I came here and everybody told me I’d get robbed. I’ll take the rematch but I’m not playing by these rules. I want her to come up to Providence.' "
