Mayweather rules out Martinez Clash

WBC welterweight and WBA light-middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has hinted that he may never fight higher than 154lbs at the recent media tour to promote his upcoming mandatory fight with Robert Guerrero on May 4.

The current pound for pound number one, who last fought when out-pointing Miguel Cotto in 2012, was asked whether a fight at 160lbs is a possibility against current king Sergio Martinez and in his answer, almost certainly ruled out a future battle with the Argentinian.

"Sergio Martinez is 160. Floyd Mayweather walks around at 147," Mayweather told mlive.com at the media event.

"Where was Sergio Martinez when I was dominating when I was 21? Nowhere to be found."

WBC middleweight belt holder Martinez at 38, is two years older than Mayweather and having began his career at 147lbs, 'Maravilla' has only been in a position to fight the American since he moved up in 2005.

Mayweather seems content to stick at the bustling welterweight division for the foreseeable future and maybe only a high profile showdown with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez could change that over duration of the 30-month Showtime contract that 'Money' agreed to recently.

Alvarez, 22, has seemingly distanced himself from a shot at Mayweather's P4P crown after shelving an undercard slot and citing broken promises of a future fight as the reason for his decision, with the Mexican now facing Austin Trout on April 20 instead.
