"No fight," stated Mayweather Promotions CEO

"No fight," stated Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, who moments ago just left a meeting with  members of Team Maidana and representatives from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Evidently, a controversy over the gloves that WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana is wanting to use has placed Saturday's fight in jeopardy.

When both teams arrived to select their gloves, Team Mayweather was not pleased with the lack of padding in the Everlast gloves that Team Maidana wanted to use. After hours of back-and-forth conversations between Ellerbe, Robert Garcia, and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, the Commission ruled that the specific gloves that Maidana wanted to use were not acceptable, however, the actual brand and style would be allowed provided Maidana use a different pair.

That decision did not seem to sit too well with Ellerbe, who had no problem declaring that the fight would be off, at which point, Team Maidana abruptly packed their bags and left the room. It's unclear at this point what the status of the fight is.

Richard Schaefer: ‘Glove-gate’ averted, Mayweather-Maidana is on

LAS VEGAS — A glove controversy which jeopardized tonight's welterweight clash between RING and WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand on Showtime Pay Per View has been resolved, according to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer.

"There were some customized gloves made by Maidana which had the Everlast with the horse hair," said Schaefer. "There are the gloves with the padding with the foam filling, and the ones with the horse hair and then there is third one with a combination of the two of them."

Maidana's Everlast eight-ounce brands were found to have lacked the appropriate amount of padding around the area at the knuckles, according to Schaefer, but those have since been replaced and Schaefer said that he was "confident everything will be worked out."

"There were some issues about the gloves, more specifically, the padding or the lack thereof of the gloves… What we're talking about here is that those customized gloves which were in the Argentine colors were ruled by the commission as not comforming, and so, those are not allowed," said Schaefer.

"Then, other different Everlast gloves were produced… and they were all okay by the commission, so now I think that both of the teams are working out which ones they are going to be. So everything is going to be okay. It was just a matter of which type of gloves it's going to be."

Mayweather is set to use Grant gloves, but Maidana's Everlast MX gloves were suspected of being "back-loaded" around the wrist area in addition to not having enough padding at the crest of the fist, according to Mayweather's attorney, John Hornewer, in a report on The Sweet Science website.

Mayweather, Hornewer and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe objected to the distribution of the padding as well of the "integrity of the packaging" of the equipment, which was shrink-wrapped.

"No wonder why he's hitting motherf–kers and they're falling everywhere," said Mayweather, according to a video on Fighthype.com, after examining the gloves. "They ain't have no padding in there. No wonder why fighters is dying on the regular. We're supposed to be here protecting the fighters."

Nevada State Athletic Commission chairman Franciso Aguilar could not be reached for an immediate comment. But Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe initially cast doubt on the status of the fight.

"We're trying to figure that out," said Ellerbe. "But we're not fighting with him in those gloves."

Schaefer, however, said that he expects the bout to happen.

"They're still talking about it, but everything will be worked out… Now it's just a matter of which gloves they're going to use. I am absolutely confident that it will all be worked out," said Schaefer.

"All of the gloves were eight ounce gloves. But when you have gloves, to make them eight ounces, that's easy. The question is where's the weight distributed."

Those gloves are shady as they come, look at the wrinkles, it is quite obvious that the paddings are not full causing the gloves to sag and be wrinkled looking. :palm

Ellerbe turned them down, in a huff.

Floyd only tried on the blue pair himself since you think your dropping some knowledge , and no question they are shady and said no fucking way.

that people getting payed to look out for his interest on team mayweather choose to have a protest against the everlast mx type glove oh well work it out.

stop trying to take away from the fact the gloves to match maidanas outfit for tonight were no good , Floyd was right to say fuck them i mean who knows

more about gloves your tap thong wearing ass or him  :madlol

Same gloves! implies they all wore the same exact pair of gloves. Lets clear this up they all wore the same brand and type gloves, the gloves in question was of the same brand and make. but the padding was the issue, I am sure all the others boxers that have worn the same gloves did not have an issue with the padding or lack of padding. :tup

His training and preparation for this fight should be all he needed in this fight. Not gloves, shoes, or special boxing trunks.

Thats not entirely true G - familiarity with a glove is important to many fighters and is no more different than a Golfer who gets used to a certain putter. If he has trained and sparred with these gloves right throughout his training camp they would obviously be important for him to wear!!

grim, I'm really disappointed to read your post about mayweather paying maidana's check so maidana has to settle.  you've become one of mayweather's sheep, too, apparently.

I never said that, this is like having a debate or argument with your wife or girl friend, you say the sky is blue and she interprets it as I want to have sex with the neighbor's wife.

so listen/read carefully, I said:

Well Floyd also paid Maidana's check. Thats what the shot caller does, he calls he shots.

As you can read, if one can read correctly there is no reference to Maidana has to settle

so maidana has to settle.

If there is an issue with gloves then any boxer has the right to request the opponent use a different pair, thats just how it is no matter who is paying who.

Read what is typed and noting more, it's plain and simple

You're right, it is like arguing with a woman.  A woman always says something in plain text but then after confronted, she says, "well, I meant this" even though she clearly said what she said.

According to your post, Maidana can take it or leave it.  That's clearly settling for any whim on Mayweather's part since like you said, "Mayweather paid Maidan's check."

He's definitely an all time great, but not the greatest.

in Floyd's case, I guess if you repeat something enough times, it becomes truth in your own mind.

Thurman can definitely throw, but he's there to be hit.  with floyds accuracy, don't think Thurman will win all that easily, if at all.

Thurman has the skill set , just not the experience. I would like him and Khan in November , the winner of that imo is the best shot . Interesting that Chino had the better jab against Floyd , alot due to Floyd not using it much early but in the later rounds when he did want to chino was matching him.

I didnt think Floyd would pull a rope a dope tho , expected him to do everything to stay away from them like he did against Ginger, but he shocked me

Thurman and khan would be a damned good fight.  I think Thurman is heavier handed though and would ko khan by the 5th.  I'm actually thinking effective ko 4.  it would be fun while it lasted, though.
