So after years of waiting, Amir Khan's long game has paid off big time.

Khan's previous punts on Floyd Mayweather Junior and Manny Pacquiao did not work out as both fighters left him hanging on - even letting him agree terms - before snubbing him to fight someone else.

But now he has landed the next best thing - a showdown with Saul Alvarez.

Khan's clash with Alvarez for the WBC middleweight title and Ring magazine belt could easily be the biggest fight in Las Vegas this year.

Promoters Golden Boy have slated the clash to be the first held at the new, 20,000-seater T-Mobile Arena, which is being completed just off The Strip.

The arena, which is set to become the No 1 boxing venue in Sin City, is due to be finished in mid-April, just in time for Khan's fight with Alvarez on May 7.

The fight promises to be massive and Khan's camp have been blown away by the interest from around the world since the fight was announced yesterday.

Khan could pick up a career-best purse of at least £8million and this figure could rise depending on pay-per-view sales.

UK broadcasters are falling over themselves to land the rights and Sky Sports and BoxNation have already declared their interest.

But more than all the money Khan will earn, the contest can be his career-defining fight.

Looks bad on Canelo I agree, however it was looking bad on Khan for not taking the Brook fight only 24 hours ago.....by fight night all will be forgotten :coffee

If Khan fought Brook and lost ,this fight right here vs Ginger would never even be an option. Nobody will care about Khan losing to Canelo. Even with the loss to Canelo people will still want to see him fight Brook.

What would the world think of GGG, the other champion at 160, if he was to fight khan?

its unthinkable.

Im not justifying it for Canelo...its a poor option for him, but for Khan its a different story .....as rican points out even if he loses he still gets another option of a big payday by fighting Brook!!

Khan should be getting the credit here instead of Canelo the sniping!
