Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is making plans for the return of some the fighters who fought on his Oct. 6 DAZN card in Chicago, including a possible junior featherweight world title unification bout for Danny Roman.

Hearn told ESPN that junior featherweight world titlist Roman, who retained his belt on that undercard with a 10th-round knockout of Gavin McDonnell, would return in January or February -- and possibly for a major fight.

"We'll probably look to make Roman and [fellow world titlist Rey] Vargas for a unification," Hearn said. "Good fight. We'll work it out."

Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez, whose company also has a deal with sports streaming service DAZN, told ESPN on Saturday that a Roman-Vargas unification match is also appealing to their side and that he and Hearn have discussed making the match.

"We want to do that fight," Gomez said.

Vargas (32-0, 22 KOs), 27, of Mexico, has not fought since a unanimous decision win over Azat Hovhannisyan on May 12 because he was sidelined with a shoulder injury that required surgery. Then he also dealt with a bout of pneumonia.

Gomez said Vargas would be ready to go in January.

Vargas won a vacant 122-pound world title by majority decision against McDonnell in February 2017 on McDonnell's turf in England and has made three defenses.

Roman (26-2-1, 10 KOs), 28, of Los Angeles, won his belt by upset ninth-round knockout of Shun Kubo in Japan and has also defended it three times.

Both fighters have expressed interest in unification fights.

Hearn also said former welterweight and junior welterweight world titlist Jessie Vargas (28-2-2, 10 KOs), 29, of Las Vegas, who fought to a draw in a tremendous battle with Thomas Dulorme in the main event of the Oct. 6 card, would return to the ring in March. Vargas has settled for draws in back-to-back fights against Dulorme and Adrien Broner in April.
