Khan in Surprise Rankings boost by WBC

Amir Khan has been thrust into the mix for a shot at welterweight king Floyd Mayweather Jr after the WBC placed the Brit at No. 2 in their rankings - despite him never having fought at that weight. The Khan camp has talked positively about stepping up from light-welterweight for a shot at Mayweather and the American has done little to dampen the speculation.

Before any fight can happen, Khan must beat Julio Diaz in Sheffield later this month - while Mayweather must see off Robert Guerrero. But if they do come through those assignments, the path would appear to be being made clear for a meeting. Khan is attempting to rebuild his career following two losses but it seems the WBC rate him highly as they have introduced him once place below Luis Carlos Abregu who himself faces no easy task against Antonin Decarie on April 27.

The WBC decision has raised eyebrows, with Khan being placed above the likes of Ed Paredes and Leonard Bundu who are both on long unbeaten runs.

Matthew Hatton, anyone?  Seems like rankings go way up when a GBP fighter is involved in a fight, doesn't it?

Exactly, yet he somehow fought a GBP guy for a title in a weight class he'd never fought in before.

I don't understand the question.

CJ is probably the most repetitive poster on the Internet, he continually flogs the same point at every opportunity!

exactly, it wasn't literally about hatton in a khan thread, its about GBP's influence to get khan such a ridiculously high ranking.
