blackrican23
www.boxingscene.com Former world champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-8-1, 23KOs in boxing, 0-1, 1NC in MMA) is planning to continue his run in Mixed Martial Arts on October 12th in San José, Costa Rica. Mayorga is scheduled to face Costa Rican Sergio "Checo" Ortiz, who is 1-1 since making his MMA debut in May of this year. This past July, Mayorga had his second fight as a Mixed Martial Artist and he was swiftly disposed of by Rene "Level" Martinez (5-0) in less than two minutes of the first round. Martinez took Mayorga to the ground almost immediately. Mayorga tried to escape the ground but as he scrambled to his feet Martinez caught him in a guillotine choke, which forced Mayorga to submit almost immediately. On May 4th in Managua, Mayorga made his debut in Mixed Martial Arts against Wesley Tiffer and won by TKO in the second round. But there were several issues after the match was over. For starters, Mayorga weighed in 20-pounds over the contracted limit of 165-pounds. Then during the fight Mayorga launched an illegal knee to the back of Tiffer, which made the fighter scream out in pain. At that point Tiffer was unable to continue and Mayorga was declared the TKO winner. The result was later changed to a no-contest.
