LAS VEGAS -- Carlos Amado Molina, the IBF junior middleweight world champion, was arrested here Tuesday by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and as of 9:30 a.m. Pacific time on Thursday remained in the Clark County Detention Center.

Molina is supposed to make the first defense of the belt he won in September from Ishe Smith on Saturday at the MGM Grand against Jermall Charlo. Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer, who is promoting the fight card but is not Molina's promoter, said as of 9:45 a.m. Pacific time Thursday that Molina was still on the card.

According to Abigail Gomez, a spokeswoman for the Clark County, Nev., Detention Center, Molina is wanted in Wisconsin for obstruction and failing to register as a sex offender. She said he has been placed on an immigration hold. Molina was born in Mexico but lives in the U.S.

Sgt. Dave Lund of the Appleton, Wis., police said Molina is wanted by both the Outagamie, Wis., County Sheriff and the Appleton Police Department. He is wanted by the Outagamie sheriff on the sex offense charge, charges that have been pending since January 2007, Lund said. Appleton police have a misdemeanor disorderly conduct warrant out for Molina from 2005.

A spokesperson for the Outagamie sheriff was not immediately available for comment. Molina promoter Leon Margules was unavailable for comment.

Schaefer, whose company promotes Charlo, said he did not have much information on the charges against Molina.

"I was told he was being processed and would be released and that he is expected to be at the press conference today," Schaefer told Yahoo Sports.

IBF junior middleweight champ Carlos Molina was arrested this week in Las Vegas on warrants out of Wisconsin that included charges of failing to register as a sex offender.

Molina attempted to post the $10,000 bail, but was denied after Las Vegas police found out that U.S. Immigration was also looking for him.

He is still in a Las Vegas jail at this time just two days away from his proposed bout with Jermall Charlo on the undercard of the “Toe to Toe” pay-per-view event to be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas that is headlined by the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Alfredo Angulo showdown.

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said that the deadline for the Molina situation to be taken care of is before Friday’s weigh-in. If the the issue is not resolved the bout will be stopped from the card and Canelo’s brother Ricardo Alvarez’s bout with Sergio Thompson will be moved up to the PPV slot.

Schaefer also mentioned that if the bout does get cancelled that Charlo will still receive his $100,000 purse he was guaranteed for the bout.
