After beating Mexican Alvaro Robles in an eighth round stoppage, Britain’s Kell Brook will fight for the IBF welterweight belt in the summer.

Brook is the mandatory challenger for the IBF welterweight title, but injuries prevented him from meeting Devon Alexander for the belt last year and a world title shot was then delayed when Alexander lost his title to Shawn Porter in December.

The win over Robles, who had previously lost only two fights in his career, extends Brook’s unbeaten record to 32 fights, and he now says he’s headed for the IBF title, for which he will fight Shawn Porter or Paulie Malignaggi, who fight each other in 19 April.

Brook made it clear he was ready to step up a level, after his obvious frustration at the delayed opportunities of last year.

"I'm only after those elite fighters now," Brook, 27, told Sky Sports.

"I'm happy I got this out of the way and the next one is for the IBF strap.

"It's getting hard to get up for these kind of kids now."
