British heavyweight Danny Hughes will face IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev this weekend in Rostock, Germany.

This is the Bulgarian’s third change of opponent on the undercard of Enzo Maccarinelli’s world title challenge against Jurgen Braehmer.

Elijah McCall was announced by the Sauerland brothers on Twitter as his opponent, only for the American to reject their final terms. Unheralded Joey Dawejko was expected to come in as his replacement, only for him to sign for a different fight on Thursday night.

After a frantic search for a last minute replacement, Sauerland Promotions have turned to Hughes in order to get their man some rounds ahead of his IBF title challenge next time out.

Sunderland fighter Hughes is unbeaten over four or more rounds. With a record of 12-2-2, both defeats came in Prizefighter competitions to Michael Sprott and ‘A-Force’ Audley Harrison.

Despite his 12 victories, only two had winning records going into their fights and he has only had two fights since September 2011.
