WBA Punishes Guillermo Jones, "B" Sample is Positive

The World Boxing Association has issued a suspension period of two years on former WBA cruiserweight champion Guillermo" Felino" Jones after he tested positive for a banned substance in his "B" sample. The sample was opened on Tuesday, May 20, at the Laboratory of Switzerland.

This was confirmed by the vice president of the World Boxing Association, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, who said that in the "B" sample there was "a high presence of the substance furosemide, which is the same drug found in the prior sample and in previous [tests]."

Mendoza explained that Jones "is a repeat offender and is suspended for two years, as stated in the Health and Safety Code, and he also loses the status of champion (in recess) and position of mandatory challenger."

Jones tested positive for the same substance after last year's eleventh round knockout victory over Denis Lebedev. A rematch was ordered and was scheduled to take place last month in Moscow. It was canceled an hour before the fight was scheduled to come off, after Jones once against tested positive for furosemide. This time a neutral WADA approved lab was used for the test.
