WBO mini-flyweight champion Francisco “Chihuas†Rodriguez Jr. (15-2, 10 KOs) retained his title and acquired the IBF belt of Katsunari Takayama (27-7, 10 KOs) with a hard fought twelve round unanimous decision in a 105lb unification clash in front of more than 12,000 fans at the famed Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Rodriguez dropped Takayama in round three but Takayama staged a furious comeback and the bout became a war of attrition with both boxers being rocked down the stretch. In the end it was Rodriguez wining by scores of 116-111, 115-112, and a ridiculous 119-108.
