blackrican23
What kind of audiences are we talking about for the two upcoming Al Haymon/Premier Boxing Champions series on NBC and Spike TV? We can get an idea from the MMA numbers on those networks. UFC’s Saturday night prime time telecasts on FOX generally pull in around three million viewers, so we could expect a somewhat similar audience size when prime time boxing debuts on NBC March 7 with a doubleheader featuring WBA welterweight world champion Keith “One Time†Thurman against Robert “The Ghost†Guerrero and Adrien Broner vs. John Molina Jr. There are five prime time boxing telecasts scheduled for NBC, as well as six Saturday afternoon telecasts. Over the last two years, NBC televised several Saturday afternoon cards with very good audiences such as Adamek-Cunningham with 1.6 million viewers (3.2 million peak) and Fury-Cunningham 1.2 million viewers (1.7 million peak). The numbers dropped off for later NBC afternoon cards, but premium-network quality cards will likely once again attract millions.Spike TV’s MMA shows averaged 727,000 in 2014 and twice peaked over one million viewers. The Premier Boxing Champions show on March 13 featuring Andre Berto vs. Josesito Lopez and Shawn Porter vs. Roberto Garcia will probably do similarly. The NBC/Premier Boxing Champions deal also has nine shows on NBCSN for 2015, which has previously done boxing numbers in the 200,000 range. However the network is growing every quarter and popular sports events can do 400,000+ viewers. By comparison, HBO boxing telecasts averaged close to one million viewers and topped out at 1.4 million in 2014. Showtime boxing telecasts average about 600,000, however their recent Wilder-Stiverne fight attracted 1.24 million viewers. HBO has an estimated 28 million subscribers, Showtime has an estimated 23 million subscribers. Telemundo’s “Boxeo Telemundo Ford†averaged 566,000 viewers per show in 2014. ESPN2 Friday Night Fights averaged 393,000 viewers in 2014. UniMás “Solo Boxeo†does around 360,000 viewers. http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/boxing-bracing-millions-new-tv-viewers-277588
