In his 2nd comeback fight, former world champion “Mile High” Mike Alvarado (36-4, 24 KOs) had to shake off some early rust against the durable Josh Torres (15-5-2, 7 KOs) out of New Mexico and escaped with majority decision on Saturday night at the Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas. Torres took the fight to Alvarado early, but by the fourth round Alvarado found his timing and was able to land his overhand right and some quick combinations. Torres was there inside going toe to toe with Alvarado but could not land anything significant to stop Alvarado. In the 7th and 8th round, Alvarado pulled out the fight as he let his hands go, backing up Torres with big right hands. The judges scored it 76-76, 78-74, 77-75 for Alvarado as he looks for big names in his next fight.

In the co-feature, 2008 Russian Olympian and former world title challenger Matt Korobov (26-1, 13 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over Texan Brian Vera (23-11, 14 KOs) in an eight round middleweight clash. It looked like it would be a short night when Korobov dropped Vera twice in round one and again in round two with his vicious left hand, before Vera knew what hit him.
