Mofo2
Quote Typically, a WBA purse bid would be 75-25 in favor of the top titleholder, Golovkin in this case. However, the Jacobs camp petitioned the WBA last week to make a change in the split, which is possible but rarely done. Jacobs was seeking a 60-40 split in Golovkin’s favor -- because even Jacobs and his team (namely adviser Al Haymon) understand that Golovkin is by far the bigger attraction, the more highly regarded fighter and the guy with a Dec. 10 date on HBO worth millions. So while Haymon and Golovkin promoter Tom Loeffler have supposedly been deep in negotiations, the WBA ruled Wednesday on the split. Golovkin won this round and it will remain 75-25, the organization announced. The WBA committee cited Golovkin’s longevity as its champion and his knockout streak. He has held a world title since 2010 and knocked out his last 23 consecutive opponents. Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) has also defended the WBA’s belt 16 times. His fifth-round knockout of Kell Brook last month was technically not a WBA-sanctioned defense because it did not approve of welterweight Brook fighting for a middleweight title, but Golovkin’s other belts (WBC and IBF) were indeed on the line.
