Witter v Hatton Deadline Passes Without Bids

An English welterweight title battle between Junior Witter and Matthew Hatton, put to bids by the British Boxing Board of Control, has gained no bids it has been confirmed this week.

The fight was put out to purse offers for a deadline of Wednesday 8th May, but with no parties taking up the opportunity, the grudge match now looks dead in the water.

Former WBC champion Witter, 39, has been out of the ring since a November British title defeat to Frankie Gavin and had famously called out Hatton's older brother Ricky for years.

Some of the Yorkshireman's comments have been considered below the belt as Witter continually baited the 'Hitman' to face him in the ring, although Matthew now seems set to miss out on the chance to settle the score.

31 year-old Hatton had told WBN earlier this year that he would not consider moving too far down the domestic scene on the back of his respectable showing against IBO title holder Chris Van Heerden in South Africa - which may have been a big factor in why the fight never got off the ground.
