Fury could be set for Euro Title Shot

Tyson Fury could be in line for a shot at the European Boxing Union heavyweight title.

A potential clash between the Morecambe sensation and the Bulgarian has been put out to purse bids with a May 28 deadline set for an agreement.

The match between the two unbeaten fighters has long been considered to be a likely final eliminator for a shot at Wladimir Klitschko’s IBF crown.

But with Sauerland stablemates Pulev and Robert Helenius not set to fight in the former’s mandatory defence, the union have selected 24-year-old Fury as the next contender for the belt meaning it could also be a title match.

The Morecambe man is 21-0 with 15 knockouts after his thrill-a-minute victory over Steve Cunningham at New York’s Madison Square Garden on April 20.

Fury pulled himself off the canvas in the second round to stop the former world cruiserweight champion in the seventh with a devastating right hand.

The fight was broadcast on NBC in the United States and according to viewing figures was the highest rated boxing show across the pond so far this year.

The show averaged 1.2 million viewers, peaking at 1.7 million.
