Klitschko-Povetkin Issues Resolved, Finalized Deal Close

Bernd Boente, the manager of WBO/IBO/WBA/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 51 KOs), and Russian promoter Vladimir Hryunov, who also manages mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (26-0, 18 KOs), spoke to BoxingScene.com on Friday morning in a joint interview - where both men agreed that all of issues related to random drug testing have been resolved and both sides are well on their way to signing the finalized agreement on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. The fight between Klitschko and Povetkin is scheduled for October 5th in Moscow, Russia.

 

The biggest issue with finalizing the fight was the ongoing dispute regarding the selection of the organization to handle the random drug testing. Klitschko and his team wanted to use NADA, which is based in Germany. And Povetkin's side wanted RUSADA, based in Russia, to handle the testing.

The two sides, who met together on Friday morning in Berlin, have hammered out the details. There will be a confidentiality agreement and the details of their agreement will not be disclosed with the media.

 

There was some confusion regarding some comments that were circulated in the Russian press, where Andrei Ryabisnky stated that Klitschko's side rejected the idea of random drug testing during training camp. That issue been solved as Ryabisnky stated that he was misquoted.

Ryabinsky is the Vice-President of the Professional Boxing Federation of Russia, and the event partner of Hryunov, who secured the rights to the card with a winning purse bid amount of $23 million dollars.

"I met with Mr. Ryabinsky today and there was a misunderstanding [with various comments written in the press]. That is why I didn't understand those comments because Wladimir, from the start, wanted full random testing during training camp.

 

Those problems [have been resolved] and we are on our way [to a finalized deal]. I believe the contract will be signed on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week," Boente told BoxingScene.com.

Hryunov was equally excited.

"There are no more issues between the two sides. We had a great meeting earlier today. Mr. Ryabinsky has a lot of respect for Klitschko and his team. We are very excited that that everything is coming together and we look forward to signing the contract next week and then staging one of the biggest events in the history of boxing," Hryunov told BoxingScene.com.
