Paul Smith reclaimed the British super-middleweight title after stopping city rival Tony Dodson in the sixth round.

Referee Richie Davies stepped in to save the brave Dodson after Smith had landed a heavy right hand to the side of his rival’s head and had him in trouble.

The fight was waved off after 2.31 of the sixth session and sees Smith regain the Lonsdale Belt he last held in 2010.

Smith had floored Dodson in the third round with a left hook but the ‘Garston Warrior’ managed to get to his feet and retaliate in a raucous three minutes of action.

The fight at the Bolton Arena was a more exciting affair than their 2010 meeting when Smith defended the British title at the ECHO Arena in Liverpool with a  gritty points win.

But the return would not go halfway as Smith sealed the win and immediately set his sights on achieving the one more victory he requires to win the Lonsdale Belt for keeps.

Yeah this was a great performance by Smith, I'm surprised how in control he was, I expected Dodson to be more forceful with his pressure but he want given the opportunity to get in his stride!
